I just signed on to coach a local JrFLL team. My kids love Legos. I love Legos. But I’ve noticed a gradual change in the Lego universe. For the team, we just bought two kits, Lego Education swag, that consist of basic bricks, gears, and a motor, minimal packaging, branded only by Lego themselves. Total cost: around $300. My son regularly buys or receives retail Lego kits. These are heavily branded, contain numerous specialty pieces, limited mini-figs, decals or prepainted components, and a host of specialized accessories. Average cost: $20-$40. Now, I’m pretty sure the Lego scale replica X-wing costs more to manufacture and promote than a white box full of red or blue bricks and a few gears. The price point, however, does not reflect this assumption. I’m beginning to think that the dudes responsible for making the cost of fresh fruit triple that of the Spongebob-gummy-fruit-colored-squeeze-cheese-kool-aid-sipper candy may be moonlighting at Lego.
How much for just ONE BRICK! And some barbecue sauce… just put it in my hand…
